what does the battlefield look like?
Accused killer Joran Van der Sloot told Peruvian police in an alleged confession that he drank an espresso and ate four biscuits in his hotel room while he contemplated how to get rid of the woman's body, the Spanish-language newspaper La Republica reports.
The article, quoting an unidentified detective linked to the case, says the 22-year-old Dutchman decided it was too risky to carry the body of Stephany Flores out of his Lima hotel in a duffel bag because he might be stopped at the desk for having not paid for his room.
Flores, a business student, was found beaten to death, her neck broken, in Van der Sloot's hotel room, the Associated Press reports. Police said the two met playing poker at a casino.
The broadcaster America Television reported that Van der Sloot killed Flores in a rage after learning she had looked up information about his past on his laptop, the AP reports
The newspaper says Peruvian authorities also surmised that Van der Sloot may have considered getting rid of Flores body in the ocean.
It says that when Chilean police arrested him, he had in his duffel bag detailed charts of ocean currents and tidal waves around Lima, which is near the coast.

Van der Sloot is linked to the 2005 disappearance on the island of Aruba of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway, whose body was never found.
The newspaper also says Van der Sloot was bankrupt, having lost almost all his money playing poker since he arrived in Peru on May 14.
